FREE advertising grants from Google – only charities need apply!

Your charity web site is finished and looking attractive, it explains your mission, who you help, and incorporates some interest-provoking photography and videos. You are driving traffic to the website through your digital activity, including newsletters, emails, and social media etc.

This is excellent - but how can you attract additional traffic without spending a fortune? How can you lure increasing amounts of visitors to your website, so that and even wider audience can find out what you do and become further engaged with your charity?

Did you know that you could apply for a little FREE advertising from our favourite search engine Google? This is based on the Google Adwords platform, where you can bid for individual keywords, which when typed into Google, bringing your web site to the top of Google rankings. Google AdGrants offers the same facility – but free to charities!

There are restrictions - for example the adverts must be non-commercial and reflect the charity mission – and there are limits to the cost of the keywords and the amount of Google’s money you can spend. But with a little effort and technical expertise, this can truly increase the visibility of your site when searched for by potential supporters.

I worked with one of the larger charities/social enterprises in Birmingham and, as part of an integrated digital marketing campaign, with the help of Google Ad grants, we increased the volume of incoming sales leads for the social enterprises by a factor of 10 over a 12-month period. Thee charity site now pulls in over 100 leads every month.

To fully utilise AdGrants, it helps to engage the services of a search engine marketing company to assist you with the keyword selection and text ad design. If you have the expertise you can go it alone using Google’s AdWords Express portal.
